Democratic Party of Oregon Food Drive
DPO capitalizes on election excitement to serve communities in need. Food Drive starts today, lasts through end of the year.
Portland - The Democratic Party of Oregon will build on the enthusiasm of the 2008 election by working with grassroots activists throughout the state to collect food for the Oregon Food Bank.
"The Democratic Party's 2008 success wasn't a movement just to win an election," DPO Chair Meredith Wood Smith said. "It's a call to restore our country. That restoration starts by helping our communities in need."
Food insecurity is a widespread Oregon problem - exacerbated this year by the national economic downturn. Â For too many families, bare pantries are a daily fact. For too many seniors, a trip to the pharmacy means not enough money for a stop at the grocery store.
To help ease the pain, the DPO will work with its grassroots activists throughout the state to collect and direct food and monetary donations to Oregon Food Bank locations throughout Oregon.
The drive starts today and extends through the rest of the year. The DPO expects to help hundreds and possibly thousands of families with its donations.
For more information on how to get involved with the food drive, Oregonians can contact the DPO at 503-224-8200.
"In 2008 we saw record support for our Democratic candidates up and down the ballot," Wood Smith said. "We're steering that election excitement into community service. We're turning election enthusiasm into support for our neighbors."
