Tens of thousands of eligible voters in at least six swing states have been removed from the rolls or have been blocked from registering in ways that appear to violate federal law, according to a review of state records and Social Security data by The New York Times.

Book Review—Obama: The Price of Being Black
Sept. 25. 2008 – In this month's New York Review of Books, Andrew Hacker unpacks the issue of race and voting rights, noting, "[N]ow strong forces are at work to downsize the electorate, ostensibly to combat fraud and strip the rolls of voters who are ineligible for one reason or another. But the real effect is to make it harder for many black Americans to vote, largely because they are more vulnerable to challenges than other parts of the population."
