Second Vice-Chair Jill Thorn

Jill ThornPolitics has been in Jill Thorn's blood since listening to the nominating conventions of Adlai Stevenson and Dwight Eisenhower! While only seven years old, she was hooked and wanted to be involved in politics!

Now fast forward to 1984. Jill ran for West Linn City Council and defeated the incumbent and her childhood dream was happening. In August of 1993 was appointed Mayor and went on to serve three terms as Mayor.

After the 2000 election and Jill's unsuccessful attempt to defeat State Representative Jerry Krummel, she attended the central committee meeting of the Democratic Party of Clackamas County and was elected Vice Chair. After the resignation of the Chair six months later she became chair. With the help of the Executive Committee a new course was set for the county party. That course was to fill as many precinct committee slots as possible and become an organization that candidates, legislators and other elected officials would respect and seek out.

Today there are almost 250 precinct committee people, viable and working house district organizations. Elected Democrats seek the party and the party's support on many issues and fronts.

As a delegate to the State Central Committee, Jill became involved in the Organization Committee and was appointed Chair. After the reorganization in 2005 she was asked to chair the Platform and Resolutions Committee. With the help of an outstanding committee much progress was made to streamline the resolution process. Giant steps were taken to make the 2006 State Convention process run smoothly and give a larger voice to the delegates in determining the Legislative Principles and Action Items.

Jill and Bob Thorn moved to Oregon in 1976 from Virginia. It was part of the "deal" when they got married as Bob, who is a graduate of Benson High School in Portland, wanted to return home. Sons Richard and Jason were also part of the "deal", and Robert and Christopher round out the family arriving in 1978 and 1981.

Jill has served as president of the chamber, chair of the fair board, chair of the auction committee for the high school booster club and a member of the school district budget committee and long range planning committee for the district. She is a member of the West Linn Lions.

Jill currently works for a local government in planning and is a member of AFSCME.
