Salary: $32,000 - $35,000 Year/DOE + Benefits

Job Summary:
The Democratic Party of Oregon (DPO) is seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as a full-time Regional Organizer. The position will play an integral role in the 2008 Presidential Election, US Senate Election and 5th Congressional District Election. The DPO is leading the way to invigorate and empower Democrats at the grassroots in Oregon through the Neighbor-to-Neighbor program, and as Field Organizer, you will play a pivotal role in fulfilling DNC Chairman Howard Dean’s vision for a stronger, more effective Democratic Party nationally.
This is a full-time salaried position in Portland or Eugene under the supervision of the DPO and funded by the Democratic National Committee’s (DNC) State Partnership Project.

Description:
The Democratic Party of Oregon (DPO) has a 36 county strategy to build long-term, year round, sustainable organizational infrastructure. Field Organizers will work in partnership with DPO leadership, county parties, volunteers, grassroots activists, elected officials, candidates, and allied organizations to build a grassroots network of neighborhood leaders to elect Democrats at all levels of government. This position may have a role in conducting outreach within the Spanish speaking community; fluency in Spanish is desirable.
The primary responsibilities of the Field Organizer, working in conjunction with local parties, are to recruit, train and support volunteers to build the strength and success of the Democratic Party of Oregon (DPO) at the grassroots level.
One position will be responsible for the 5th CD – promoting Presidential, Senate and 5th CD Campaign.
One position will be responsible for Multnomah County – the most populated county in the state, along with the counties along the Columbia River Gorge.
Qualifications:
• Previous organizing experience with a campaign, state party, membership organization, or non-profit is desirable
• Must have the ability to relate successfully to individuals of all races, nationalities, religions, genders, sexual orientations, income levels, educational backgrounds, and occupational groups.
• Fluency in Spanish is desirable
• In state travel and ability to work evenings and weekends required
• Computer proficiency with basic database, email, and word processing necessary
• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet goals and deadlines while working independently
• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills necessary
• Strong work ethic and commitment to local organizing
Responsibilities:
• Increase numbers of neighborhood level organizers, registered voters, and build party membership
• Train and engage volunteers in meaningful voter contact with goals and accountability
• Implement field, voter contact, outreach, and training activities
• Organize and manage volunteer phone banks and canvasses
• Attend county party meetings and regularly meet with county party leadership, local leaders and activists to assist in developing and implementing local strategic plans
• Prepare regular field reports for the Field Director and Executive Director
• Assist in organizing DPO events/projects as needed
